More Like Little Big Awesome!
Written by Steven McKay

I'd just like to make one thing clear: I never played the original Little Big Planet. I always wanted to play it, but just never got round to it. So when Media Molecule released the trailer for the recently announced Little Big Planet 2, I couldn't help but notice that it looks... Oh, what's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah, ABSOLUTELY FRICKIN' RAD!

I mean, did you see the sackboy mech? Or the mouse racing game? OR THE SACKBOY WITH THE 3-D GLASSES AND THE NEWSPAPER BEARD?!? AWESOME!!!

WAIT, WHY AM I SHOUTING? OH RIGHT, IT'S BECAUSE THERE'S JUST TOO MUCH RAD IN THAT TRAILER!

*timidly*Anyone else agree?

Available For Download This Week: Rocket Knight (multi) & Things On Wheels (XBLA)

It's an interesting collection of arcade titles this week, which sees the release of Things On Wheels on XBLA, and the HD update of 16-bit classic, Rocket Knight on PSN and XBLA.

Things On Wheels is exclusive to XBLA, and is a racing title in which you race around tracks in miniature remote-controlled cars. The game is set to retail on May 12th for 800MSP. In addition to the single-player campaign, the game features split-screen co-op, and up-to 4 player online play over Xbox Live, and looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Rocket Knight on the other hand, is a a 2.5D revival of the original Rocket Knight series, and has been developed by Climax Entertainment (the developers behind Silent Hill: Shattered Memories), and the game is said to combine the best features from the original series, alongside some fresh new ideas.

Rocket Knight is set to release on the North American PSN store for $15 on May 11th, and will land on the European PSN store on May 12th for the price of €12.99 (£10 UK).
As ever, XBLA will be keeping things simple, and the game will release globally on May 12th, for the price of 1200MSP.

As usual, videos for both titles can be found after the break. Enjoy!

There's quite a full docket of releases on PSN and XBLA this week. Check out the details below:

PSN
This week sees the release of Lead And Gold: Gangs Of The Wild West on PSN. The game released yesterday (May 4th) in North America, and retails for $14.99 US. The game is set to release in Europe on May 5th, and will retail for €14.99 (£9.99 UK).

XBLA
There are two games hitting XBLA this week; Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition, and Raystorm HD.  Zeno Clash is a first-person brawler similar to Condemned, though the game aims for more of a fantasy element than its forebear, whilst Raystorm HD is an old-school shmup, recently given an HD coat of war-paint. Both games are scheduled to release in North America and Europe on May 5th, and both will retail for 1200MSP.

Videos for all three titles can be found after the break.

PSA: Split/Second Demo Is Available Now On Xbox Live
Written by Steven McKay
Monday, 26 April 2010 14:10

Reported by Joystiq

A demo for Split/Second, the new arcade racer from Pure devs, Black Rock Studios, is now available to download now on Xbox Live. However, the demo is only available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers, so it looks like Silver subscribers and Playstation owners will have to wait until May 11th, when the demo gets a full release.

Now that Criterion Games have stopped supporting Burnout Paradise, there is definitely a place in the market for a good arcade racer. The question remains though, will racing fans opt for this, or for Bizarre Creations powered-up racer, Blur? I personally am looking forward to both (a lot!), so it looks like May is going to be an interesting month.

The demo for Split/Second is available on Xbox Live now, whilst the retail game ships in North America on May 18th, and in Europe on May 21st.

I won't go into too much detail about this week's arcade title, as I've written about this game before.  As such, this post is just a reminder of the salient details:

The game will release on XBLA and PSN on April 21st and 22nd respectively, and will retail for the price of 800MSP ($10 US). Check out the video below for a better look at the game in action:

Apparently puzzle Chronicles might also be heading to XBLA (and probably PSN) this week too. The video for it can be found below:

Hmmmmm. It definitely looks... interesting.

Xbox Live Deal Of The Week: Borderlands - "The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned" DLC
Written by Steven McKay
Sunday, 18 April 2010 16:00

Confirmed on majornelson.com, this week's deal of the week on Xbox Live is "The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned", the first DLC pack released for Borderlands. This DLC pack will be available as of the 19th of April, and will be on sale for the reduced price of 400MSP - a 50% reduction on the standard retail price.

If you've been meaning to pick this up, but have never gotten around to it, then now seems like the perfect time. I myself plan on picking this up, so if you want to play co-op, give me a shout - my gamertag is blacktail9mm.

In the meantime, enjoy this video put together by the nice people at Gearbox Software. Oh, and remember: aim for the head!

Green Day: Rock Band = What You See Is What You Get
Written by Russ Crandall
Tuesday, 13 April 2010 20:33

In an uncool turn of events, Joystiq unleashed the news that the upcoming rhythm game Green Day: Rock Band will not be receiving any DLC. And while it's pretty awesome that you can play the entirety of Dookie in the game (one of the albums I thought should be an essential 90s album on Rock Band), that also means anyone who wanted to hear some older stuff, like 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours (1990) or Kerplunk (1992) is going to miss out.

Full, supremely final tracklist after the break.

Tuesday, 13 April 2010 12:30

Just a quick reminder that this week's arcade title is Final Fight Double Impact, and will be landing on XBLA and PSN on April 14th and 15th respectively. If you want more information, click here to view last week's post.

Want the concise version?  Find a bunch of dudes who look like Andre the Giant, then suplex them! In the face! Repeatedly! Until they can't get up any more. Oh, and it comes with Magic Sword too.

Via majornelson.com and xbox.com

As there weren't any arcade titles to download this week (although there was a highly sought after demo), here are specifics on next week's downloadable titles - namely Final Fight Double Impact, which lands on XBLA and PSN on April 14th and 15th respectively.

However, don't let the name and the 800MSP/$10(US) price-point fool you, because there are actually two games in this package: the aforementioned Final Fight, and Magic Sword. Both games have been given an HD filter, feature achievements/trophies, online play, and re-mixed soundtracks.

Check out videos for both games (courtesy of PSNstores.com) below:
