Final Fantasy IX coming to Japanese PSN; North America imminent?

It's no secret that my favorite Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy IX, or Final Fantasy IIIIIIIII as I like to call it. I like its unique characters, not-overly-crazy ending, and universally-appealing setting and tone. As luck would have it, SquareEnixTaitoEidos confirmed today that it's coming to the Japanese PSN store, which is not terribly surprising considering the fact that Final Fantasies VII and VIII are already out. I'm sure it'll be coming to North America soon thereafter.

Next up: Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve II and Chrono Cross?

Available For Download This Week: Heavy Rain "The Taxidermist" DLC

Does anyone remember seeing a Heavy Rain trailer a long time ago, which featured Madison sneaking through an eerie house, then being chased by some creepy weirdo as she tried to get away? You know, that sequence that looked quite tense, but never made it into the final game?

Well now it's available as DLC, and the chapter goes by the name of The Taxidermist. The best part is, it should be available by the time you read this, and the price in North America is $5. So, if you enjoyed Heavy Rain and desperately want to be creeped out again, then this sounds like it should be right up your street!

Confirmed: After Burner Climax Release Date

If any of you are fans of the game After Burner, you may remember this. Or possibly this?
Well, now you have good reason to be cheerful, as Sega just recently confirmed the release dates for After Burner Climax in North America and Europe.  The game is set to release on XBLA on April 21st, and will arrive on PSN on April 22nd in both territories.

I distinctly remember playing the original in arcades as a kid, and being blown away by how fast and slick the game was, so it'll be interesting to see how this remake holds up. Is anyone else excited for this, or does anyone have any similar memories of this game as a kid? If so, drop us a comment and let us know what you think.

Available For Download This Week: Unconfirmed Edition: Mega Man 10 (XBLA)
Written by Steven McKay
Wednesday, 31 March 2010 02:05

Having been reported in February, but not confirmed since, Mega Man 10 should be arriving on XBLA this week. Back in February, Capcom announced that the game would release at different times on different platforms; March 1st on Wiiware, March 11th on PSN, and March 31st on XBLA.
Though it is hard to confirm, it looks like the game will cost 800MSP, when it releases later today.

After the crushing difficulty of previous Mega Man games, especially Mega Man 9, this game will include an easy mode, for people who don't like to cry while gaming. If you're unsure as to whether you want to forcefully make yourself cry, check out the video below:

"Looking for a quick way to boost your gamerscore?"

The title you see above came from Mr. Major Nelson, whose recent blog post lifted an eyebrow or two (well, one of mine at least). It's pretty bad when the first thing you say to people in order to get them to buy the latest Xbox 360 Game on Demand is that it offers easy achievement points. Shouldn't he be focusing on the game's merits instead?

Then again, the game was Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth, so maybe it needs all the help it can get.

Available For Download This Week: Game Room (XBLA)

Tuesday, 23 March 2010 15:00

This week looks to be a slow week for downloadable titles, as the only thing looks to be Microsoft's Game Room, which isn't a game, but rather a virtual arcade for your avatar to hang out and play arcade games in.

The virtual arcade itself is free to download, and does admittedly look fairly neat. However, you won't be able to play any games unless you buy those separately – the prices for which are outlined below:

400MSP gives you a dual-platform license for any game (Xbox 360 and PC).
240MSP gives you a single-platform license for any game.
40MSP gives you two quarters worth of play time on any arcade cabinet.

PSA: Splinter Cell Conviction Demo
Written by Steven McKay
Thursday, 18 March 2010 02:20

This is just a friendly reminder that a demo of Splinter Cell Conviction will be hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace on March 18th (that's today!). The demo is said to be taken from the solo campaign, and should give fans a taste of this next, long awaited, instalment in the Splinter Cell series.

The full game is set to hit retail shelves on April 13th in North America, and on April 16th in the UK.

Apparently Sony's UK Playstation store has nothing better to do with its time, than play early April Fool's pranks on me.

You may remember that just yesterday I put up a post saying that After Burner Climax would be releasing on PSN today. I got this information from the UK Playstation store (see the above screen grab), though apparently it's wrong, as I've just checked the store and there is nothing there.  After that, I did a little digging on Sega's official site, and noticed that the games release date is down as being "Spring 2010", and that the game will also be coming to Xbox Live.

Due to this, I'd like to appologise for posting bad information, and for getting peoples hopes up. Oh well, I guess you really can't be right all the time!

*sigh* No, Capcom. Just... No!

The character you see above you, is Capcom's latest addition to Super Street Fighter IV, Hakan.  Hakan is an "Arabian grappler" who douses himself in oil before each fight starts. However, the real question is: Why, Capcom? Why?

I can't help but feel that this guy not only looks stupid, but that he also seems very similar to E. Honda, both in the way he looks, and in the way he plays.
To see this for yourself, check out the video below:

I'm sorry Capcom, but this guy looks like he would be absolutely no fun to play as, and he just looks really uninspired.
Personally, I don't think I'll be getting Super Street Fighter IV when it comes out, because the new additions don't really inspire me, and I'm really nervous about T. Hawk being in the game -- I'm convinced that he'll break the balance of the game, just like he has in every other Street Fighter game he's ever been in.

Is anyone else thinking about getting it? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
