Quelle Surprise!

When it was first announced that Irrational Games were working on a sequel to their show-stopping 2007 game Bioshock, the vast majority of gamers figured that this was probably just going to be a watered-down (no pun intended) and unnecessary sequel to what was, a brilliant, but essentially self-contained game.

Due to this, it's fair to assume that most people expected the game to be pretty lacklustre.  Surprising as it may seem though, the new issue of UK Xbox 360 magazine Xbox World 360 has an exclusive review, in which the game scored a lofty 90%.

In short, the review goes on to say that Bioshock 2 almost betters the original in every way, and cites the improved gunplay, terrific story, and script as the games stand-out points. On the other hand, they only had two minor problems with the game; that Rapture was no longer as exciting a setting as it was the first time around, and that the game feels noticeably shorter than the first one.

Given that the original Bioshock was one of the best games of 2007, I'm sure most gamers will be pleasantly surprised by this news. At any rate, here's hoping that the good reviews keep coming; it's been nearly two and a half years since most of us first set foot on Rapture, and suddenly that seems like an unbearably long time.

In one final neat touch, the magazine also gave away some free Bioshock Cubeecraft designs. For anyone outside of the UK, fear not; some (different) designs, as well as a bunch of wallpapers (including the one I used for the main image for this post) can be found here.

this is good news. although i'm disappointed in its short length; the first BioShock was already a pretty short game.

I still couldve gone with a couple less fetch quests though. Hopefully there's less padding in this one. Still not quite a first day buy for me yet. That might change.

If this continues to get good reviews then it'll definitely be a day one purchase for me. I loved me some Bioshock
