Just as I was beginning to think that this year's E3 conference was somewhat of a disappointment, a little bit of hope came from the strangest of places: Konami's E3 press event.

Now, I'm not talking about Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow, which, going by popular opinion, is shaping up to be pretty good, or Neverdead, which despite having an awful trailer, looks like it could have promise. No, I am talking about the new Vatra Games developed Silent Hill, the YouTube trailer for which is embedded below:

Whilst the game still looks a little rough, this trailer has me excited for a number of reasons: Though it's still early, it looks like Vatra Games seem to have nailed that eerie Silent Hill look and feel, and it's great to see the return of the nightmare world -- you know, the proper nightmare world, filled with rust, and decay, and blood. Also, this new game seems to be a marriage of Shattered Memories creepy torch exploration and the combat/gunplay of the previous games; Shattered Memories was extremely atmospheric, and was great at building tension, but the only problem is that the tension never really went anywhere. Instead, all we got were those frustrating chase sequences, so here's hoping that Vatra Games can blend the two elements together, to make something truly special.

It's also good to see that, as the first Silent Hill game without the series' composer, Akira Yamaoka, at the helm, the music (1minute 30seconds into the video) still seems to fit the game perfectly.

After watching this trailer, I can safely say that I'm cautiously optimistic about the game, as the early signs seem to be pointing in all of the right directions. Personally, I can't wait to jump back into the Silent Hill universe, and this new game seems like it could be worth the wait.

Also, I'm officially calling it; judging by the way main character, Murphy Pendleton, holds his gun and flashlight, I reckon he's a disgraced ex-cop.

Hopefully the game lets me invert the camera this time unlike Silent Hill Homecoming.
